I’m back after LOOONG holiday

Here I am again. I’m back after about 10 days holiday! Wow what a long holidays. Actually I’m off because of the Hari Raya celebration. For me, Hari Raya is actually for children. They are the one who will wait eagerly for that day to come. Before the special day comes, the children will get new clothes and new shoes! All parents want the best for their children.
As for me, my father also would try his best to buy new clothes and new shoes not only for me but for my siblings also. There were 5 of us and on that time father worked as a goverment officer with a small salary. He had such a big responsibility towards us but what makes me proud is, he will never dissapoint us. Whenever I asked for something, sure he will get it for me. During Hari Raya, he will make sure that all his children will get at least one new cloth, getting new shoes would be bonus for us
When the big day comes, father will go to grandma’s and grandpa’s grave, after that he will performs the ‘sembahyang Hari Raya’ at the nearest mosque. Then he will come back home and all his children will seek forgiveness from him and from my mom as well. This is the moment where we will reveal the truth and we will express our regretness for doing all the bad things throughout the year.
We celebrate Hari Raya for 30 days! and within those days, the children will get money known as “duit raya”. The money will be put in a small envelope like the picture above. The amount of the money, it depends on the person who give it. Normally for person who are close to us we will give more compared with our neighbour’s children for example. During my childhood times, I managed to get $100 and that would a big sum of money for 12 years old girl.

Mummy…not your “mom”

16 September 2009A joint Japanese-Peruvian archaeological mission has uncovered the remains of a woman who they believe was killed as a sacrifice, almost 3,000 years ago in Peru.
At close to 3,000 years old, scientists were amazed at how well preserved the remains were (how little the dead body had been destroyed or decayed). The woman, named the ‘Lady of Pacopampa’ after the site in the northern highlands where she was found, stood at just over one and a half metres tall.
She was discovered surrounded by gold necklaces, pendants and ceramics. Archaeologists were also surprised to find jewellery made from seashells as the site where she was found in the Andean Cajamarca region is several hundred miles from the coast and there was little previous evidence of trade between the two areas.
Although the circumstances of her death (how and why she died) are still unclear, the Japanese researcher leading the dig, Yuji Seki, said her bones were found in the foetal position with the legs bound by a cord (tied with a rope). He added that she was between 30 and 40 years old when she died, considerably older than most mummified bodies found in Peru.
Archaeologists believe the Pacopampa area where she was found was an important ceremonial site, contemporary with the better-known Chavin and Cupisnique cultures.

Tuition, what for?
Sometimes I don’t understand why students love to go to tuition classes compared with school. Is the tuition classes really needed? Back to my school days, as I remembered I went for tuition classes only once. I took Mathematic class. The purpose is, I want to improve on my Mathematic skill. I admit that I can’t catch up in class because I’m not a very smart learner
For skills subject likes Mathematic I need someone to show me directly the way to solve the Mathematic problems. But nowadays, students assume that tuition is more important than school. They took tuition almost for every subject and not focusing on the subject that they are weak at. They totaly depend on tuition classes. Maybe because they pay for it so they assume tuition is more important and more valuable then school.
Well in my country education is almost FREE until you turn 17 years old. We only pay a small amountof money once a year and that money is actually for class materials.
A student can actually do well in studies if they pay attention in class, do their homework and revise their book everyday. In addition, a student need to understand the subject thoroughly and if any problems occur they must directly ask the teacher in class, don’t wait any longer.
Going for tuition may only be effective in short term. In the long run, a student must have his or her own initiative to study on their own. The tutor can only be with them for a specified amount of time. The choice is in your own hands.

I’m SO Sorry

Currently I’m teaching in the middle of this metropolitan city. I’m teaching in the afternoon session. I have one student who is always late to school and he comes to school with a dirty shoes and dirty shirt. Every time I ask him about his dirty shoes and shirt, he didn’t give me any answer.
At first I can be patient about his dirty shoes and shirt but he continously coming late to school and I can’t bear with him anymore! At first I just gave him warnings and he just gave me a slight bowing without looking at my face. Then I gave second warning, he acted the same. Then he did the same mistake once again. This time I have no choice except to cane him. He still didn’t say anything even he allowed me to cane him. He’s not even trying to defend himself only tears streaming down his cheeks. The next day he was late again and I caned him twice! But that didn’t change anything, he keep on coming late to school.
So one day I decided to go to his house. After getting the address from his form teacher, I went to his house alone. He lives in unproper housing area. All the houses there were not perfect. Most of the houses were made from wattles and straw. I couldn’t believe with my own eyes! I didn’t expect there were such houses in this area. Then, I saw my student and he was standing infront of his house with a worried face. A woman who stood beside him also had the same expression.
About 1.30pm, a young boy almost the same age with my student was running as fast as he could towards the house. While running he took off his shirt. When he arrived at the house, he quickly gave the shirt and shoes to my student! Without waiting, my student hurriedly wore the shirt and shoes then he ran towards school.
I went back to school feeling regret. I called the student and I tried to hold my tears while I speak to him.
“I’m so sorry. I went to your house, I was hiding behind the bushes. Who was the boy who gave you the shirt and shoes?”
He was shocked then he said “He is my brother. We actually share the same shoes and shirt because we only have them one. My mother couldn’t afford to buy for us. I’m sorry teacher, I didn’t mean to come to school late everyday. I don’t have any other choice.”
“Why you didn’t say anything to me?” I asked.
“My mother always tell us not to ask from people and not to tell anything about our poverty. Mom says there are other people who is less fortunate then us” he said.
Without waiting any longer, I hugged the students and said “I’m so sorry…….”

Case of a Wrapping Plastic

Problem with the same class. There was a case happened involving a boy. He did something wrong, he tore a plastic which is used to cover the soft borad at the back of the class. Then, the teacher asked him to pay a certain ammount of money (to buy a new plastic). The next day, he didn’t turn up. He actually refused to pay and he was absent for one week! On the following week, he brought a letter from his mother. This is what she wrote:
Dear Teacher,
My son is innocent. He told you many times but you didn’t believe him
and you asked him to pay you! I couldn’t accept that teacher! Can’t you
see with your own eyes that we don’t have money to pay you? Even the
school fees also we did not pay yet! I strongly believe that my son is
innocent. I will bring the police to school and check the finger prints on
the board. If my son is innocent, I will sue you in court! Wait for me
there teacher!
L*****’S MOTHER
I felt so angry even though the letter was not for me. What did the boy tell his mother? My friend said she saw with her own eyes what the boy did to the plastic. He used a pen knife and made a long line from one side to the other. Not even the teacher but the classmate also could be the witness. If they go to court, who do you think would win the case? Hahaha I don’t think that the police will take charge of this kind of case! But, if we want to seek for justice I don’t mind go to the court for a wrapping plastic case

What should I do?

Whenever I enter this class, I will feel that I’m a failure. When I talk to them, I will feel as if I’m talking to the wall and fans in the class. Starting with the first step in class, they ignore my appearance, no greeting was given. They acted as if I didn’t exist! When I start talking, only 20% listen to me and the rest they totally ignore me! There is no use shouting (to make them quiet) like a crazy women because the impact will not be long. The longest will be about 5 minutes and after that everything will be back to ‘normal’. They refused to listen and refused to answer my questions. What else should I do? Send them to the discipline teacher? The rest of the teachers and I did that many times in fact their parents were called but still their stubbornness is still strong. They will get back to their usual behaviour a day after. What else? Penalize them? That also will be no use because they had been pinushed soooo many times but still there is no improvement. What what else should I do???

Thanks to H1N1

We just celebrated our National Day. I’m proud living in a multiracial country with the Muslims, Chinese and Indians can live under one roof. We can do anything and go anywhere without worrying. Nowadays, the only thing that we have to be extra careful is with the H1N1 virus that not only attack my country be many other countries. We are not encouraged to visit crowded palces because of that virus! and there are also other things that the goverment urged us to do to prevent the spreading of the virus for example wash hands regularly using the right technique and cover mouth when sneezing or coughing. Beside the bad things about H1N1, I would also like to express my happiness NOT because the number of death is increasing daily but because I managed not to over spend my money! I just spent my holidays at home, watching TV that cost nothing (not really because I have to pay for the electricity monthly) to me. So this is actually a great opportunity for me to save more money $$$
